about

Unreleased, forgotten 7inch off the Bruton library music album “Deep Funk”. Two killer cuts by the Sound Stylistics:

Heavy Soul is exactly what the title suggests, an “instrumental with a driving groove” and a perfect tune to get a party started, while “Move It Up” has a more relaxed vibe while still being gritty.

These 45s have just been unearthed from the pressing plant’s storage room after 15 years.

Back in 2007, Mocambo had licensed numerous titles for commercial release on limited edition 300x vinyl from the Atmosphere, Bruton and Chappell catalogues through then-owner BMG Zomba Production Music. After we had put out several 45s and compilations with the best titles from the Sound Stylistics, Delta Rhythm Section, Glover/Crockett/Glover sessions, Freestyle Records decided to release the Bruton library album “Deep Funk” in its entirety (only on CD though). When we come to the point of pressing the last remaining titles - that we had already licensed and paid (cat. numbers 1012 and 1017), we felt that the game was getting a bit oversaturated. Plus we had more urgent singles such as Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band’s “PIMP” and Gizelle Smith’s debut 45 waiting in line, so we postponed the production of #1012 and #1017 after a few testpressings and never looked back. Someone in the factory must have fulfilled what was in the orderbook and pressed around 250 copies of each one without telling us.
When the factory cleaned their facilities this winter, two big boxes marked MOC 45-1012 and MOC 45-1017 came to daylight. Some might be a bit dusty, most of them smell funky, but they’re all intact and complete the missing puzzle pieces of our catalogue.
